Companies that promise quick-fix borrowing and credit repair solutions have landed under the state's microscope.

A work group studying Oregon's mortgage lending regulations is considering rules that target companies promising to "rescue" tardy borrowers, as well as help consumers overcome credit bureau barriers. The group may craft bills to be considered for February's short legislative session.

In the meantime, the state's Department of Consumer and Business Services expects more financial rescue firms to come on the scene. The growth relates to the anticipated interest jump in adjustable-rate loans.

Thirteen credit-repair organizations do business in the state. Nearly 30 companies are registered to offer credit-related assistance services throughout the Northwest, according to the Better Business Bureau...
