I have heard about credit repair companies that can get negatives off your credit report but have heard that there are alot of frauds out there too. So has anyone actually tried one that works?

there are ZERO companies that can just magically repair your credit, however you can join a debt management organization who can help you MANAGE your credit which in turn improves over time. I personally use american debt management, I was 6 months deliquent on 2 credit cards, this was 6 years ago now I have very good credit since i was able to make all my payments.

No there arent any that can do it. What you need to do is clean it up yourself.

Start by paying a little more than the min amout due on a card.

    Pay them on time.

Bad marks go away after 7 years but crditors usually allow 4 years if you clean it up enough.

You can do it yourself if you want to spend the time to do it. Those companies cannot do anything you can’t do yourself. But once you clear your credit, you may be left with no credit, which is just as bad as no credit. If they are charging you $100 or less, make sure they are offering a guarentee and in what time frame they will clear it. A lot of those companies are lazy and will just request a tax id number for you , replacing your social security number and you’ll be left with no credit.

Be extremely careful if you decide to use a credit repair company. Many times a person will find that they are in worse shape than before they hired that company.

Thoroughly check a company out before you hire them!!!!!!

As others have posted, you can do it yourself. Which is usually the best way to go.

There are many free credit repair sites on the web. Never pay a site for information.

The site I’ve listed is one of the best I’ve been to. I would suggest that you do some reading in the newbie forum and the credit forum before you decide to use a credit repair company.

I have been doing credit repair for over ten years and have never received a dime for it. I have considered researching credit repair companies by using myself as a guinea pig, but at what cost ?

There is an excellent self help book out there called
“Guaranteed Credit” by Arnold S. Goldstein. It costs about twenty bucks and can be reviewed before purchase.

Is there a legit company? One company who looked very good to me contradicted methods which I have found to be effective. I have thought about selling my services but the truth is all I can provide is administrative support such as letter writing and personal advise. How much is that worth ? You still have some work to do on your own.

If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center () These days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company’s website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company’s customers.
You can find more detailed information about a company at

Legit credit repair companies do indeed exist. If you want to know more about who you might be getting into business with, check them out with the BBB and see what their rating is. Look for comments about the company on the internet. If a company has done a poor job for a customer, they’re unlikely to keep that information to themselves. If you can find a great company with a spotless record, it seems like a great way to improve your credit and your scores.
