The Decline of the Credit Repair industry

November 25th, 2008

Over the past couple of years there has been a huge boom of new credit repair companies as well as individuals claiming to do credit repair services. With this boom, there has been a huge increase in consumer complaints about the industry. The most common complaint being, “I paid my money and they never did anything for me, and I cannot get a hold of anyone.” The largest reason for this is that most of these credit repair professionals are nothing more than people who have purchased a do it yourself ebook on credit repair, and then begin soliciting money from others.

The problem with his is that even if these ebooks contained valuable information (most of them don’t), there is a big difference between cleaning up your own credit and performing credit repair for many others. Running a business is not something that most can do successfully, and those who do their research will find that most of the credit repair companies that are started, are not even around 6 months later.

The huge influx of credit repair companies all trying to compete has driven down the prices and forced most companies into a “monthly service fee” program model. Although I understand why most companies has moved to this model, it does not serve the consumer well at all. By only charging a low monthly service fee of $79-99/mo to perform full-service credit repair, the only way a company can be profitable is to only work onĀ 1 to 2 items at a time. What this does is drag out the credit repair process over 9-18 months so that the company can still collect enough monthly fees to make it profitable.

Now, with all that being said, would you rather spend $1,000 to clean up your credit quickly in 3-6 months with a money-back guarantee, or would you rather spend $79 per month for 12-18 months with no guarantee and only a few items getting worked on at a time? If you think that you can spend $79/mo for only a couple months and a credit repair company is going to get you good results, think again. They are not going to lose money on you. $79 per month for 18 months comes out to $1422 and you may have only a few items corrected. To me it is obvious that I would rather pay $1000 and in 6 months if I don’t feel I got my money’s worth, have my case evaluated for the money-back guarantee.

We have done business in this manner for years and that is why we have no complaints. We are also now in the process of developing a new program for those who wish to do their credit repair on their own, but use our proven process that we have refined and simplified over the past 10 years. It will be a do-it-yourself credit repair program, but with our experts available to assist you when you need it. The cost will be a very low monthly membership that can be cancelled at any time.

Does anyone know what credit scores fall into which categories?

November 23rd, 2008
foxyrockie02 asked:

I know there’s Super Prime, Prime Plus, Prime, Non-Prime, and Sub Prime. But then there’s actual credit scores (numbers) that decide which of the above categories you are in. What I’m wondering is what’s the lowest your score can be? I think the highest is 900. Also, which numbers fall into which category? Thanks!
Ok, so I’m getting ready to by a car. What are the ranges for those categories?
Yes I do. It’s about 569. It not great but I’m trying to get some stuff taken off thats not correct. By the time I pay a few things and get the incorrect info off, it should be higher. Whats my interest rate gonna look like for a car loan. New or only slightly used(less than 25k) 2 thou down on a 14thou car used 18thou new. With my credit as is I mean.

Why do I have 3 different credit scores from the credit reporting agencies?

November 12th, 2008
T.J asked:

I am currently monitoring my credit report from the 3 credit bureaus. I filed bankruptcy almost 2 years ago and I currently have no balances on any of the 4 credit cards I have and have never been late on a payment to them. I monitor my credit report with Experian and I now have a 620 credit score. With experian I have seen a steady increase in my credit score since I filed my bankruptcy. With the other two agencies, I haven’t seen much of a change. Experian is at 550 and Transunion is at 505. I have checked my report with all 3 bureaus and they all have the same information. Can anyone tell me why there is such a difference in the three credit scores? As of right now, I have $100 balances. I pay all my bills on time and from everything I’ve read, a discharged bankruptcy from 2 years ago should have my credit back to about the 650 -670 range. Am I missing something?

Do the well to do have good credit scores just because of who they are?

lela1026 asked:

I work with many residents and doctors who all have never worked a day in their lives. When they graduated and start working i am sure they have a ton of debt and bad credit scores but how are they able to buy homes in the 500,000 to million dollar range where i live. Do banks accomdate them becasue of potential income, as a professional curtousey (SP), because I am sure they have tons of debt, and live off of meager incomes and credit cards. How does this work?

Those of you who have used Lexington Law credit repair services, how did it work out?

November 9th, 2008
Claudia D asked:

I’d like to know of anyone who has actually used Lexington Law credit repair and of their experience. I’ve gotten mixed reviews on the company, so I’d like to hear from some actual users. Was it successful? How long did it take? Any problems? How was their communication/customer service? Do you get to talk to a real lawyer ever?
